The North Central Drug Task Force made six arrests between Aug. 24 and Aug. 27.
On Aug. 24, Task Force members and Mille Lacs County deputies arrested Gretchen Marie Johnson, 34, and Jeffery Allen Parkki, 35, on Hwy. 169.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ to interview contestants at Grand Casinos

Visitors of Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Grand Casino Hinckley will have their chance to audition to be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune as part of a preliminary contestant search. Three one-hour sessions will be held at Grand Casino Hinckley on Friday, Sept. 10, beginning at 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. and at Grand Casino Mille Lacs on Sunday, Sept. 12, beginning at 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Tribal police save two lives

Officers performed CPR at gas station, powwow.
Mille Lacs Tribal Police officers have saved two lives in the past month.
On Aug. 5, officers Noah Melberg and Craig Nguyen were dispatched to the Marathon Gas Station on Hwy. 169. Upon arrival, the two officers noticed a woman lying unresponsive on her back next to her car. Her skin was purple, and her sister was performing CPR.

When Marie Frazier moved to Isle, about a year and a half ago, she planned on continuing in her business as a cake decorator. Marie’s mother was a cake decorator and she found she had the talent for that vocation. But when she got to Isle, she realized there wasn’t the demand for her product that she had in the Cities.

“Ever shot a handgun before?” Al Tutland asked.
“Not very often,” said the newspaper reporter, embarrassed to tell the truth — only once, about 12 years ago, the last time he did a story on firearms training.
Tutland, a firearms instructor with the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, went over the weapon (a Glock) and the course.

A couple living northeast of Bock were charged with drug possession and child endangerment after North Central Drug Task Force agents executed a search warrant and found marijuana plants and mushrooms believed to contain psilocybin, a controlled substance.

3-day walk for the cure

Thousands lined the streets of the Twin Cities in late August to cheer on survivors and supporters at the Susan G. Komen 3-day Walk for the Cure.
Among the participants were local survivor Marcia Balder and her teammates: Kellie Cox, Carissa (Daiker) Capistrant, Tina Daiker and LaRena (VanAlst) Rondeau.
A very emotional closing ceremony celebration ending at the state Capitol was truly breathtaking, Balder said.

A bump in the lake

Bea Steeber of Isle was heading out fishing last week when she felt her boat hit something. She looked and saw a big branch floating in the lake. On her way in from fishing, Steeber looked for the obstruction which was in a pathway many boaters use to go under the Malone Island Bridge.

Boyd, Beaulieu appear in court

Joshua Boyd, who is accused of the murder of William Nickaboine in July, appeared in court on Friday, Aug. 27. His attorney, David Dean, requested a continuance. Aaron Beaulieu, who is also accused of the murder, appeared in court for a Rule 8 hearing on Monday, Aug. 30. Neither has issued a plea in the case.

Princeton bridge project delayed by rain

Replacement of the Hwy. 95 and Dunn bridges in Princeton has been delayed because of rain and the high levels of the Rum River’s main and west branches.
Crews continue to monitor the water levels.  Elevation was at 953 feet on Friday, Aug. 27, down about 4 inches from Thursday afternoon.
